This question must be answered by each of us or life will be meaningless. When his disciples started to follow Jesus, he turned to them and asked, “What are you looking for?” (John 1:35-42). They responded, “Where are you staying?” – can we hang out with you/ can we spend time with you? I think their desire is perfectly natural.
In my first semester of college (Texas A&M) I quickly realized that there were two paths in life and that I would have to choose one. After experimenting with the empty life, the desire to be with Jesus grew in my heart. I started going to daily Mass, made a thorough confession and focused on friends at the Catholic Student Center. As I spent time with Jesus and these friends, I was learning about our faith. I found myself defending our beliefs with non-Catholics and desiring to share the beauty of our faith with them. As this grew, my heart opened to the desire to serve God and the Church as a priest. I remain grateful to God for this amazing gift and this question, “what are you looking for?” helps me to live in this gift.
