Thank you to everyone that was able to attend Parent Night last week. We covered some basic information, watched a video and got an introduction to Flo's talk this week - The Law of Exposure.
The video we watched was called "God's Chisel" by The Skit Guys. If you didn't see, you shoudl watch. And if you did see it, watch it again. :-) You can find it on YouTube at

Flo Salinas gave a brief introduction to the Law of Exposure. Basically, what we experience everyday, what we surround ourselves with, shapes who we are and what we become. In today's session Flo will expand on that topic. If you're interested in learning more about it, please join us. Parents are always welcome at SPY! If you want to do the "homework" that was assigned to the teens, here's the slide from Flo's presentation:

Another topic we covered was a change in what we provide for the teens during our "break" part of the night. For most nights we'll have snack-type food - chips, cookies, fruit - and things like that. Once a month, usually the 4th Sunday of the month, we'll have a "Pot Luck" night. We chose that day because it coincides with the parish "Hospitality Sunday" and there's often food left over. So we have more for the teens. We ask that you send some snack items occasionally with your teen. (Hopefully we'll have a sign up sheet shortly). And then on the Pot Luck Sunday we'll ask for more substantial items. Hopefully, this will make it easier on everyone.
We also talked about paperwork we need for each teen. First, we ask that you fill out the regular Religious Education registration. You can do it on line on the parish web site. That page is
/re-online-registration. Registering helps us keep accurate records. We also need a "Parental Consent and Emergency Medical Release" form. You can also find that on the web site, in the "SPY" section. You can download, print it, fill it in and send it to us with your teen. The link to that form is

There are several upcoming activities that the teens have a chance to participate in. Our first service project is "Chainsaw Manicure" at Down Home Ranch in Elgin. This will be Saturday, Oct 21 from 7:00am until about 2:00pm. Sign up deadline for that will be today, Oct 1st.

Then in November SPY will be going to "Inspriation San Antonio" put on by LifeTeen. This is an all day trip to Six Flags Fiesta Texas that includes Praise and Worship music, a guest speaker, Mass with a bishop and Eucharistic Adoration. All this
inside the park! It is truly an amazing experience. There is a cost of $55 per teen. If they happen to have a season pass the cost is only $25. Sign up is now and will end on Oct 15 or Oct 22. Money will be due then so we can get the group registered.
And finally, we will attend DCYC on Feb 2-4, 2018 in Waco. We will spend the nights at a hotel in Waco. There will be a cost of this but we will also try to do some fund raising to reduce the cost to each teen. More details on this in a week or so.
