Our Religious Education program is in full swing now. Here's a quick look at what's happening:
Living Rosary
October is the month of the Holy Rosary. On October 16th, during RE classes, we will gather in the church and pray a Living Rosary together. The Rosary, in this case, is made of students, with each student or small group of students representing a bead, and leading a prayer for that bead. Parents are encouraged to stay and join us in praying the Rosary together. If your child owns a Rosary, please have them bring it to class with them.
In anticipation of the Living Rosary, please take some time with your child(ren) and explain how to pray the rosary with them. The St. Patrick website has information on how and why to pray the rosary listed under "Prayer Resources," in the Documents links on the left side of the page, and the Prayer Packet we sent home with you when classes began also contains instructions on how to pray the Rosary. We will be praying the Glorious Mysteries. (This is the slideshow we will be using for the Living Rosary.)
Thanks in advance for sharing this beautiful prayer to our Blessed Mother with your children.
"Bags of Hope" Service Project
We are still collecting donations from students for our "Bags of Hope" for the Homeless. These are resealable, 1-gallon bags containing some food and non-food (personal care) products. A sample “Bag of Hope” is on display at the sign-in table. Each class participates by bringing their designated items.
Kindergarten: Wet wipes – either in pop-up style containers or refill packets
1st grade: 6-10 small packages of pocket-pack facial tissue
2nd grade: 6 individual servings of boxes of raisins
3rd grade: 4-packs of individual servings of pudding, any flavor
4th grade: 6-8 cans of Vienna sausages
5th grade: 1 box of 1-gallon resealable bags, preferably the freezer kind (they are thicker)
6th grade: 6-8 individual servings of sandwich crackers, either cheese and peanut butter or cheese and cheese, NOT the scoop-able kind
7th grade: 20-30 pack of 16-oz bottles of water
8th grade: 6-8 packs of individual servings of applesauce, any flavor
Please bring the items for your child's class by October 16th. The Bags will be assembled by the older students and made available for parishioners to purchase after Masses, so that when they encounter someone in need, they can share Christ's love with that person. Please support us in this project, as we model to our students how to feed the hungry as Jesus taught us. For I was hungry, and you gave me food. – Matthew 25:35
The Rite of Christian Initiation, Adapted for Children
Our RCIA Adapted for Children (RCIA-C) class begins October 23, at 5:30. These are students in 2nd through 8th grade who have missed some sacraments along their faith journey, or who are enrolled in a sacraments class, but have not previously attended faith formation (RE) classes. If your child is attending this RCIA-C class, they will still attend their regular 4:30 or 6:30 class, as well. Please send a small snack that they can have between classes.
We have several students signed up for our RCIA Adapted for Children class, and only one teacher. Please prayerfully consider giving an hour of your time each week to help us share our Catholic Faith with these students, so they may be ready to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church in the Spring. We would like to split this class into two smaller classes with two teachers each, if possible. Teachers must be EIM-certified and meet the requirements of a Baptism/Confirmation sponsor. Please contact Diane Parker for more information.
Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child's faith journey!
God bless!
