DCYC (Diocesan Catholic Youth Conference) is teens from throughout Central Texas gathering to experience their faith in amazing and life changing ways. There's Mass (three times), Eucharistic Adoration, Reconciliation, music, spearkers, breakout sessions and fellowship. If you've never been, it's an amazing experience, even for adults (and we will need some parent chaperones). The diocese created a video for last year's event that is still relevant this year:
https://vimeo.com/142149453. I encourage you to watch it.
This year DCYC is January 27-29 (Fri, Sat, Sun). The past few years SPY has gone for just Saturday's events. But this year we are going to try to attend the full 3 day event. That means we will get the full experience of DCYC but we'll also have hotel expenses and some meal expenses. And that is on top of the cost of the conference.
Each person attending DCYC (teen and adult) must complete the consent form. This is very similar to the form we've asked everyone to complete for SPY, but it is specifically for DCYC and required by the diocese. The forms can be found on the DCYC web site (link below) or under the "Documents" link on the SPY page of the parish web site (
/high-school-spy) There are separate documents for teens and adults, in English and in Spanish.
We are going to do some fundraising to try to reduce the cost per teen, but there will be some cost for each teen no matter how much we raise. We are asking for an up front deposit of $20 to hold a spot so we have a better idea of who really wants to go. As always, though, if that will cause a hardship please see one of the SPY Core members. If you can bring $5 or $10 that may be enough. Putting money up front means you're really serious about going. We need to know that so we can reserve hotel rooms.
You can find information about DCYC on the diocesan web site at
http://www.austindiocese.org/dcyc. You can also ask the Core team. Many of the team has attended DCYC. As always, you can contact me (DavidE) directly about anything.
